Conversations with Kate

Kate is a 23 year-old Irish student who came twice to our school, once in November and then from the 13th to the 17th of January. She spoke with us in English and told us about traditions in Ireland, Irish people and culture. We learnt that Irish young people enjoy watching Netflix and spending time with friends. They also have less hours than us at school. This was an enriching and great experience. Kate is a really nice person whose English is easy to understand.

Two weeks ago an Irish girl called Kate came to visit us. This year she is in Bayeux to learn French.
The goal was to learn about Ireland and Irish people and to prepare our future trip in March.
First we were separated in groups of 5 people and we prepared questions about different topics.

We learnt that Irish people eat dinner from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. At school pupils usually take their lunch with them because they don’t have a a canteen.
Kate said that she usually does the shopping with her family and she often sees her relatives.
Her favourite celebration is Christmas. We also learnt that for Saint Patrick’s Day many people from all around the world come to Dublin’s streets wearing green suits and hats.
Next she told us that during Halloween night, the Irish throw eggs and toilet paper at houses and cars.
She said that people in Cork are very welcoming but they don’t speak French.
Irish people’s favourite holiday destinations are Spain and France.
At the end, we talked about good series on Netflix.

It was very interesting and great fun to speak with Kate and she is very nice. We learnt a lot about Cork, Irish school and culture. Kate was very happy to talk with us ans she said we were very chatty and curious because we asked many questions. We really enjoyed our time with her.
